Rabies Awareness Walk

Department of Community Medicine, Isra University, Hyderabad has organized an event in accordance with  "World Rabies Day" in collaboration with Global Alliance for Rabies Control, World Health Organization and Department of Health, Sindh on Thursday 27th September 2018. This was the 4th consecutive event organized by Department of Community Medicine, ISRA university, Hyderabad. An awareness walk was organized in which large number of students (medical and nursing) and faculty members as well as community person has participated.

In this event there was a poster competition in which six students from nursing and medical side has participated on different topics related to Rabies awareness. In this seminar speakers told public that:"Rabies is a major public health problem in Pakistan" by Prof. Hussain Bux Kolachi (Chairperson Community Medicine, Isra University). "Annually 90,000 cases of Rabies occur in the country out of which 5000 die each year" by Mrs. Rubecca (Nursing Principal, isra university).  Prof. Shams of medicine department said the audiance that "Cell culture Vaccine in all the rural and urban first level care facilities and refferal level care facilities in Sindh".

"Pakistan should learn from China, Phillipine, and Bangladesh experience where Dogs and other domestic pets are vaccinated with Animal brand of vaccine which is costing US 3 Dollars and prevents animal rabies as well as human rabies. However intra-dermal vaccine is recommended for the dog bit cases in Pakistan instead of Intra-muscular vaccine" by Prof. Kolachi. The other speaker who shade light on history, symptoms, prevention and awareness about rabies so that WHO, GARC and SDG 03 are achieved by bringing zero deaths by 2030.

The event was chaired by Dr. Salman Farsi Kazi, other participants include; Dr. Sajjad Kazi, Prof. Sattar Memon, Mrs. Rubbecca , Prof. Hussain Bux Kolachi, Prof. Shams Solangi, Dr. Adnan Bawany, Dr. Prem Kumar, Dr. Saima Jatoi, Dr. Manzoor Jamali
