Boy with dog

Have-a-Heart Mobile will be spending 12 days travelling to some of the most remote townships in southern Namibia to provide free sterilisation and vaccination services to dogs and cats living in low and no income communities.

It is estimated that less than 30 % of the Namibian population have access to veterinary care which means most township animals go their whole lives without seeing a vet. This ultimately results in large and increasing populations of unsterilised and unvaccinated domestic animals which represent a danger to local human and wildlife communities.  Have-a-Heart Mobile aims to decrease stray populations by providing free sterilisations and to provide a vast welfare improvement to these animals by providing full vaccinations and parasite control treatments.

Every animal sterilised by Have-a-Heart is given a rabies vaccination, as well as yearly booster vaccinations for the rest of the animal's life. Additionally, the team will be distributing the GARC educational materials, such as 'Want a Friend, Be a Friend' booklet and setting up colouring tables for the 'Be Like a Tree' picture so children can be educated in the dangers of rabies and how to avoid dog bites.  Two members of the Have-a-Heart Mobile team have been certified as GARC Rabies Educators.
