Free ARV by JBF to dogs and cats at Gogamukh.

Following this year’s theme “Rabies: Share the message. Save a life”, World Rabies Day was observed by JBF (Just Be Friendly), a social sector organisation in collaboration with Lakhimpur College of Veterinary Science, Assam Agricultural University, Joyhing, North Lakhimpur. A week long program at Lakhimpur College of Veterinary Science came to an end on 28th September 2018 with a seminar on “Community based approach to prevent and control dog mediated Rabies”. Dr Sashanka Sekhar Dutta, Managing Trustee of JBF talked on the role of social sector organisations in prevention and control of Rabies in India with special reference to Assam.

 

This week long program that started on 22nd September, has been quite successful in making an awareness about Rabies. On the 28th September, a rally was conducted to spread awareness about Rabies. Students and the veterinary officers participated in this rally. As a part of the program, awareness camps were held in nearby government, non-government schools of Lakhimpur College of Veterinary Science and among the general people as well. JBF provided free vaccination to the free-roaming dogs, domestic dogs and cats and LCVSc organized sterilization camp for dogs as well.

 

Alongside this event, on 28th September 2018, Dr Sashanka Sekhar Dutta also visited Gogamukh State Veterinary Hospital for an awareness camp and Free Anti Rabies Vaccination to Dogs and Cats. This initiative has been extended till 4th of October since it is World Animal Day, and JBF will be providing free Anti Rabies Vaccination throughout.

 

JBF team at Guwahati on the occasion of World Rabies Day, had taken an initiative to visit Guwahati Municial Corporation office and felicitate the Commissioner, both the Additional Commissioner and Veterinary officer of Guwahati Municipal Corporation as according to 2001 Dog Rule, taking care of Free Roaming dogs in Municipal area is the duty of Municipalities.

 

JBF also organised an education program at Ankur Seminary, a school in Guwahati. An awareness activity was done by the JBF team for World Rabies Day. JBF in collaboration with Hiyaa’s (Clinic and Surgical Centre for Pets), provided free Anti Rabies Vaccination and free health check-up to canines and felines from World Rabies Day 28th September till World Animal Day 4th October 2018 at Guwahati. On-spot adoption was initiated by JBF at Hiyaas Vet Clinic and fortunately the puppies were adopted.

The day ended on a good note with JBF team spreading awareness about Rabies in different places of Guwahati through leaflet distribution.
