World Rabies Day

World Rabies Day, September 28

World Rabies Day is the first and only global day of action and awareness dedicated to rabies prevention and elimination. It is an opportunity to unite as a global community - helping individuals, civil society, and governments to connect and share their work.

World Rabies Day is an annual commemoration on September 28, which is the anniversary of the death of Louis Pasteur who created the first rabies vaccine.

Thank you for making the 17th World Rabies Day a huge success.

In 2023, we celebrated the theme “Rabies: All for 1, One Health for all”. With your help, we registered a record 359 events across 58 countries around the world!

You can read more about the successes of World Rabies Day 2023 in our newsletter article.

The next step is to build on this momentum that we have created and continue to advocate for support to further rabies elimination efforts globally. We encourage you – as a rabies champion – to continue to spread the message, raise awareness, and vaccinate dogs in your local communities to ensure that the spirit of World Rabies Day is something that continues throughout the year.

This year, you can look forward to a new theme, with new content and another round of the World Rabies Day awards! We encourage you to continue your work and prepare so that you too can become a rabies champion celebrated through the World Rabies Day Awards!

The theme for World Rabies Day 2024 will be announced in the April issue of the GARC newsletter, so be sure to sign up and follow us on social media.

We look forward to driving rabies elimination efforts together with you and hope to see your World Rabies Day event again this year! For any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Let us work together to achieve dog-mediated human rabies elimination by 2030!
