Renforcement des capacités
GARC provides tools and training to build in-country skills and knowledge on essential elements of rabies control programmes, enabling countries to strengthen their efforts to eliminate rabies in a systematic way. Our most comprehensive in-country capacity building has been in the Philippines (at the country level as well as in the provinces of Ilocos Norte and Sorsogon) and Indonesia.
Advocacy toolsWorld Rabies Day
World Rabies Day is a global day of awareness. Governments, organisations and individuals hold events on this day that highlight their work and educate their communities. GARC provides an event platform and resources to increase their impact and share their work with other rabies stakeholders across the world.Case studies
Case studies of completed and ongoing rabies programmes provide valuable learning points for implementers and the evidence can help convince donors and policy makers to increase resources for rabies control and elimination.Health economics
Governments, donors and health care providers require information about the financial costs and benefits of rabies elimination programmes to make informed decisions about resourcing these initiatives.
GARC has been working on various projects to provide this type of information, from the reassessment of the burden of rabies, to economic evaluations of rabies programmes and examining the cost effectiveness of various rabies control strategies.
Planning toolsBlueprint for Canine Rabies Prevention and Control
The Blueprint for Canine Rabies Prevention and Control is a free online resource developed by global rabies experts to enable ministries and other interested parties to help themselves through the process of designing, implementing and evaluating a large scale rabies control programme. The Canine Rabies Blueprint incorporates the Stepwise Approach towards Rabies Elimination (SARE).Stepwise Approach towards Rabies Elimination (SARE)
The Stepwise Approach towards Rabies Elimination (SARE) is part of the Canine Rabies Blueprint. It is a practical planning, monitoring and evaluation tool to guide, develop and refine rabies control programmes, providing measurable steps, designed as a logical flow of activities, to progress from Stage 0 to Stage 5, in efforts towards freedom from dog-transmitted rabies.Blueprint for Fox Rabies Prevention and Control
The Blueprint for Fox Rabies Prevention and Control has been developed by global rabies experts to provide guidance for countries who are working on the control or elimination of terrestrial wildlife rabies (with fox rabies as a template) using the oral rabies vaccination (ORV) strategy.
The Blueprint includes information from international health agencies, published field data, and case reports for practical examples of how human rabies can be prevented through effective fox rabies control and elimination.GDREP - A planning tool for mass dog vaccination
The US CDC has developed a user-friendly tool, the Global Dog Rabies Elimination Pathway (GDREP) tool, to help public health officials plan the resources needed to achieve rabies elimination by 2030 through mass vaccination of dogs. GARC is pleased to make an online version available to a wider audience.
