Rabies Elimination Progress
The Stepwise Approach towards Rabies Elimination (SARE) is a practical planning, monitoring and evaluation tool to guide, develop and refine rabies control programmes. It provides measurable steps, designed as a logical flow of activities, to progress from Stage 0 to Stage 5, in efforts towards freedom from dog-transmitted rabies.
A SARE score of 2.5 out of 5 signifies a country where a national rabies control programme being implemented nationwide, with clear inter-sectoral collaboration.

In-country Capacity Building
GARC, WHO, WOAH and the FAO facilitated a SARE workshop for the Bali province of Indonesia to assess the current situation and develop a comprehensive short-term work plan for the prioritisation of rabies activities.
GARC-Boehringer Ingelheim Asia vaccination and GARC Surveillance tools implementation workshop:
A training workshop on the implementation of the Rabies Vaccination Tracker (RVT) tool as well as on "how to plan a vaccination campaign" was undertaken with Boehringer Ingelheim country staff.

GARC facilitated the training of 40 medical and veterinary personnel on Integrated Bite Case Management (IBCM) and its routine implementation.
GARC facilitated a refresher training course for dog vaccinators in support of ongoing mass dog vaccination campaigns.
GARC facilitated a training on animal sample collection, handling, storage and transport in order to support routine rabies diagnosis.
GARC facilitated the training of 218 volunteer dog vaccinators in support of ongoing mass dog vaccination campaigns.
Animal health personnel from different districts of Nias Island were trained as trainers for humane dog catching, handling and vaccinating. Held in collaboration with FAO Indonesia.
