The Government of Karnataka state, India through the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary services observed WORLD RABIES DAY at Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) Kolar District, on 26th Sept. 2023
A free anti rabies vaccination drive was launched in KGF city to mark the celebration .
A week long publicity was conducted in the city by distributing brochures and announcements in the local print and visual media. Banners were displayed through out the city.
The free vaccination for all animals against Rabies was inaugurated by Dr. Nidaghatta Gangadhar senior scientist (zoonosis) at the veterinary hospital complex KGF. The vaccinations were conducted by a team of chief veterinary officers, veterinary officers and support staff.
A brief awareness interaction was organized at the veterinary hospital KGF in which a small number of veterinary officers , the hospital staff, animal owners and members of the general public were present (please see pictures)
A district level symposium on rabies was followed. This was arranged at the auditorium of the British era museum of KGF for invited audience consisting of several Deputy directors (admin) of the district, veterinary officers and press. Dr. Raghu Ramegowda, the past President of the state Karnataka Veterinary Association Bengaluru was the guest of honour.
Dr. Nidaghatta Gangadhar senior scientist zoonosis, Bengaluru delivered the invited lecture on the occasion. He explained the deadly nature of rabies, its epidemiology, clinical manifestations, Dos and Don'ts for Vets and public, some atypical manifestations, preventive steps, and the role of Global Alliance for Rabies control (GARC,) WHO, FAO, World Organization for Animal health, CDC and other global bodies in realizing the target of Zero rabies deaths by 2030. He also elaborated on the role of Global Alliance for Rabies Control in monitoring and coordinating the global efforts in eliminating rabies deaths. Dr. Ganga Tulasi Ramaiah The district head presided. Dr. Rajashekar Deputy director veterinary polyclinic graced the events.
