Students assembled for the awareness program at Bhavans college ,sainikpuri, hyderabad on 27th September

(1) Department of Microbiology & Chemistry under the Science Club of Bhavan’s Vivekananda Degree & PG College (BVC) Sainikpuri, Hyderabad, organized an awareness program on the occasion of ‘’World Rabies Day’’ on 27th & 28th Sep 2019. The event was supported by Global Alliance for Rabies Control ,Hyderabad Chapter of Association of Microbiologists of India (AMI) and Vins Bioproducts Ltd..The NCC,NSS & Bharath Scouts & Guide Team of BVC took an active part in the event.

Rabies ,a disease which is observed in mammals, can spread to human beings via a bite or scratch by an infected mammal. Though there is no treatment for the disease, still it is 100% preventable. To stress on the prevention of this dreadful disease the awareness program was conducted.

Day 1: 27th Sep 2019

Day 1 of the event was marked by the address of Mr. Ajit Nair,CEO,VINS BioProducts Ltd to a gathering of 2500 students  on the prevention of Rabies using the vaccines and Immunoglobulins available.

There was a huge enthusiasm among students   who presented a lively   skit on “Rabies as a disease: prevention & control”.

This was followed by a talk by Dr G. Sampath, formerly of Institute of Preventive Medicine. Dr. G. Sampath , who is also a member of the Working Group on Rabies, WHO SAGE on Immunization, emphasized on safety measures for humans to prevent infection by the rabies virus  & importance of vaccination and Immunoglobulins, if bitten by a mammal.

An intercollegiate e-poster competition on ‘Rabies Prevention & Control’ gathered a huge response among participants.              69 e-posters were received from various colleges. Students of Bhavans Vivekananda College, Sainikpuri, St. Francis College, Little Flower Degree College, Govt college for Women, Begumpet,St Pious College, of  Hyderabad and Govt. Degree College, Kurnool and Silver Jubilee Govt. College, Kurnool took part in the e-poster competition.

Day 2: 28th Sep 2019 (World Rabies Day)

Day 2  was scheduled with an awareness rally on ‘’Rabies Prevention & Control’’  on account of World Rabies Day, by NCC Cadets ,NSS , Bharath Scouts & Guide, students  & Faculty of  Bhavan’s Vivekananda College. The rally was successful due to the huge participation of 850 students. The students carried banners and placards with short messages and slogans on the WRD Theme “Vaccinate to Eliminate”. The Rally was flagged off by Air Comm.J L N Sastry,  the 92 year old Vice Chairman of Bhavan’s College along with Mr. Sidharth Daga,MD, VINS BioProducts and Smt. Mirdula Mohan, First Lady , district governor 320 B, Lions Club international.    Dr.G.Sampath and Mr.Ajit Nair also participated in  this rally.

The two day Awareness Program on Rabies Prevention & Control was a huge success not only among the students but also could reach out to the public in the form of a rally for a healthy & Rabies free society.

(2) Another Rabies awareness rally was organized at Bright Concept High School, Jeedimetla,   Hyderabad by Lions club of Hyderabad North. About 600 students participated in this rally.
