Delay of the 1st Pan-African Rabies Control Network meeting

PARaCoN logoIn light of the current Ebola epidemic that has struck the African continent, we regret to announce the delay of the 1st Pan-African Rabies Control Network meeting in South Africa.

We understand that many countries are delegating the majority of their resources and focus towards stemming this epidemic and preventing its further global spread. Thus, many delegates from affected countries will not be able to participate or obtain the necessary funding to travel. Additionally, travel restrictions may further hinder travel throughout Africa. Because PARACON aims to unify Africa in a One Health approach towards rabies elimination and control, the postponement of the meeting is necessary in order to ensure the participation of each country delegate as well as the full support of their government.

We have therefore postponed the meeting until 9 – 11 June 2015, Gauteng, South Africa. There are further details on the PARACON website.

Our condolences go out to those that have been affected by this epidemic and we hope that the world can work together in a ‘One Health’ approach in order to stem the flow of this epidemic.
