What do children think of the new Knowledge Channel video?
- Community News
Knowledge Channel has developed a 20-minute video about rabies as part of a series of programmes about health.
The Department of Health like it.
The Department of Education like it.
The Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Animal Industry also like it.
But what do the children think?
We asked 35 children from two schools (Napico Elementary School, Pasig City and Palar Integrated School in Taguig City) what they thought.
And the children loved it!
They recognised the life-saving messages of how rabies is transmitted, how to avoid dog bites, first-aid for dog bites, the importance of PEP (the series of vaccinations needed to prevent the onset of rabies following exposure to the virus), and the vital importance of vaccinating dogs.
But they also learned other things, like the importance of saying sorry when Marco, the lead character, apologises after his dog bites his classmate.
Now that the children have approved the video it will be released in time for the beginning of the school year in June and incorporated into the Science and Health Education classes for Grades 1-6.
KChannel has official links with 4000 public schools and through these the video will actively reach 4,000,000 students.
In addition, 1,500,000 households that subscribe to KChannel will also be able to access the rabies episode.
And finally, the video will also be available online where 100,000 teachers of formal schools and community learning centres, as well as members of the public, will be able to download the episode from www.kchonline.ph
We’ll let you know when it goes live.
