2022 NAU WRD EVENTS

Background

September 28th, 2022 is the 16th World Rabies Day, which aims to call attention to rabies prevention and participate the Zero Rabies 2030 agenda. College of Veterinary Medicine, International Sci-Tech Innovation Institute of the Belt and Road Transboundary Animal Disease Diagnosis and Immunization and One Health International Association (OHIA) student club of Nanjing Agricultural university organized nearly one-month world rabies day event that attracted lots of students, faculties and staff at Nanjing Agricultural University and other universities as well as residents at communities in Nanjing. This World Rabies Days event turned out to be a great success!
 

Event 1:

Poster competition for 2022 World Rabies Day

Date: Sept 1 to 28

The World Rabies Day 2022 Poster Contest is a creative project for students to express their understanding and of World Rabies Day. Their posters had to incorporate the theme "One Health, Zero Death" to promote rabies awareness and elimination. In addition, Zoetis Enterprise Management (Shanghai) Co.,Ltd. Generously sponsored the competition awards. Multiple teams from different universities got the prize and certificate on September 28. at the World Rabies Day seminar at Nanjing Agricultural University.

Event 2Questionnaire survey and rabies awareness

Date: Sept 5-10

In order to investigate whether Nanjing residents know how to prevent the rabies, our OHIA club students was divided in groups and visited many local communities in Nanjing and distributed leaflet handouts and brochures on Sept 5, 2020, which included the information of rabies control and prevention. Meanwhile, residents were given the questionnaires, focusing on the questions of rabies control and prevention and pets keeping status.

 

Event 3Free veterinary service and rabies awareness in local communities

Date: Sept 17-25  

We invited veterinarians and veterinary graduate students from the School of Veterinary Medicine at Nanjing Agricultural University to provide free physical exam for pets in four communities in Nanjing city, and offered free deworming drug to pets. Before the event, out students sent notices of free veterinary clinics to public through mulitple social media platforms such as Weibo and WeChat. In the communities, our students distributed pamphlets and raise awareness of rabies prevention by demonstrating posters, including information on rabies prevention and control.

Event 4 World Rabies Day Seminar  

Date: Sept 28

We invited four speakers in our World Rabies Day seminar this year, including Dr. Su Shuo from Nanjing Agricultural University, Dr. Fu Zhenfang from Huazhong Agricultural University, Dr. Shuai Lei from Harbin Veterinary Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Dr Feng Ye from Changchun Veterinary Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and Mr. Rolan Davis, the manager of the Rabies Reference Laboratory at Kansas State University. The guest speakers presented a variety topic of rabies, such as rabies pathogenesis, control, epidemiology, and etc. as listed in the following table. During the seminars, the winners of the rabies poster competition were awarded with prizes and certificate.
