Communication Initiatives for Change, in partnership with the Veterinary Services Directorate and Ghana Education Service, with sponsorship from Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health France, is training education officers and teachers from ten districts as trainers on rabies prevention in the Bono Region of Ghana. These trainers will further organize education sessions for students, teachers, and parents in 225 primary schools across the ten selected districts.
The education sessions will focus on basic facts about rabies, tips to prevent dog bites, and key actions to take when bitten or scratched by a dog or any other pet. The goal is to increase awareness about the dangers rabies poses to life and reduce the incidence of dog bites among students. This education and awareness campaign aligns with one of the key components of the Stepwise Approach towards rabies elimination in Ghana.
