
In commemorating this year world rabies Day, the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association Taraba State Chapter Nigeria, Africa, in its effort to rid rabies by 2030, embarked on awareness and free rabies vaccination across 16 local areas of Taraba state of Nigeria, the program which began on 14th September, 2022 ended on 28th September, 2022 with the following activities with one health in focus.
1. Lecture on clinical management of Rabies infection in human by Dr. Daniel Atijwun, a public health consultant from the Taraba State Ministry of Health.
2. Lecture on prevention of rabies by Dr.Bunsheya Ba'ade Daudu, also a veterinary public Heath consultant in view from the Taraba State ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources
3. Massive free antirabies vaccination, where over 1300 dogs including cats were so far vaccinated, because of our active involvement in the campaign against rabies, the Taraba State ministry of agriculture and natural resources , have just supported us with vaccines to cover the local government areas , as a result of that, the free vaccination exercise is still ongoing.
4. Invited guests/ stakeholders were, Taraba State coordinator, World Health organization, Commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Director public health, ministry of Health, representative from ministry of environment, the commissioner of police, Taraba State command, Chairman, Nigerian Medical Association, Taraba State branch, Chairman, Nigerian bar Association Taraba state chapter, Christian and Muslim religious chairmen and dogs and cats owners.
5. The program was covered by the television and radio houses in Taraba state to ensure that the general public are educated about the dreaded rabies disease.
6. Live Radio awareness campaign were also carried out, where dog owners and the general public, make telephone calls to asked questions for clarification on the menace of rabies and how to prevent rabies scourge.
