Rabies sensitization and vaccination campaigns through one health approach in Baringo South,Baringo County.
The county government in collaboration with Red cross society of Kenya is supporting an epidemic preparedness program through multi sectorial approach with one of the priority disease for surveillance being Rabies. Over the few months since roll out of the program in March 2024, there have been rabies outbreaks in the some wards with dog bites reported in domesticated dogs, sheep, goats and humans. The major gap has been lack of knowledge in the community in preventing rabies and resources to respond to such cases.
It is with this regard that I am taking an initiative as a sub county veterinary Officer head for Baringo South to plan for mass sensitization prioritizing the affected areas for the month of September.
This however may not be fully achieved due to constraints in resources but efforts are underway to ensure the event is successful.
