The Indian Veterinary Association (IVA) Palakkad, in collaboration with the Animal Husbandry Department and Forest Development Agency, Parambikulam Tiger Reserve, organized an Anti-Rabies Vaccination Camp for community dogs in the tribal hamlets of Parambikulam. This initiative included a robust awareness program aimed at educating local school children and villagers about rabies prevention and safe practices.
Objective and Activities: Led by Dr. Dilip Falgunan, Secretary of IVA Palakkad, the camp provided essential guidance on rabies prevention, emphasizing critical steps such as:
- Wound washing with soap and water as first aid in case of dog bites.

- Routine vaccination of pet dogs and cats against rabies to curb the spread of the disease.
Coverage and Impact: The vaccination drive covered multiple hamlets, including Chumgam, Kuriaarkutty, Kadavu, P.A.P Colony, Ancham Colony, Earth Dam Colony, and Poopara Colony. A total of 95 dogs were vaccinated, with substantial support from Forest Department staff and Eco-Development Committee members, ensuring the program’s success in reaching remote communities.
