Zimbabwe Department of Veterinary Services, Zimbabwe National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ZNSPCA) and Veterinarians for Animal Welfare Zimbabwe (VAWZ) will be hosting a three day vaccination campaign for World Rabies Day.

Over the World Rabies Day weekend, rabies vaccination will be done for FREE and each vaccinated dog will receive a unique orange collar to show that they have been vaccinated.

Six vaccination points will be established across the city:

Braeside Shopping Centre (Braeside)

Kilwinning Shops (Hatfield)

29 September (09:00 - 15:00)

Civic Centre (Marlborough)

30 September (09:00 - 15:00)

Gaydon Road Shopping Centre (Greystone Park)

Over the course of the weekend, we vaccinated approximately 2700 dogs in the city.

The locations and numbers were as follows:

  • Hatfield suburb: 486
  • Braeside suburb: 473
  • Waterfalls suburb: 449
  • Marlborough suburb: 375
  • Greystone park suburb: 216
  • Greendale suburb: 419

Over the course of the weekend, 2000 orange collars were also provided to dog owners. We did not foresee so many collars being needed over a single weekend and ran out before the end of the campaign, but another 2500 collars are being prepared to send to Zimbabwe.
