Material and Methods We analyzed secondary data from three (PHC Boileauganj, Zonal Hospital Shimla and IGMC Hospital Shimla) health care institutions, two veterinary hospitals and related departments as non random, quota sample in municipal corporation area of Shimla city.
Six month data (January to June 2014) of human cases of dog bites, veterinary care of pet and stray dogs and related departments was selected for analysis.
Field investigator visited health, veterinary, municipality and forest institutions of the city twice at one week interval from July 21 to August 4, 2014. We collected data on human cases of dog bite, dog birth control and vaccination, Municipal Corporation, wildlife department of forest to know about practices and policies to reduce menace and rabies in the city.
Interpersonal discussion was planned with service providers to understand the strengths, difficulties and opportunities for control and prevention of dog bites and rabies.
Discussion was not strictly structured. In open talk investigator try to find strengths of the institution, difficulties faced by the providers and opportunities for work. The practice was done to note the verbatim, figures and facts in a diary.
Providers were informed to supply information on dog bites and rabies control activities of the institution We are analyzing this work. We will share this work with other stakeholder on September 28, 2014 at the event of World Rabies Day.
