World Rabies Day, celebrated annually on September 28th, is a global awareness campaign to prevent and control rabies. Local governments play a crucial role in these celebrations, particularly in rabies-endemic regions. This response will explore how local governments in the Philippines have effectively utilized World Rabies Day (WRD) as a platform to promote rabies prevention and control.

Municipal Agriculture Office of the Local Government of Don Carlos, Bukidnon, kicked off World Rabies Day with a flurry of activity. Dedicated staff visited Barangay Don Carlos Sur, strategically distributing leaflets and promoting rabies awareness and responsible pet ownership. Banners were also hung on the municipal premises. Moreover, the team conducted dog and cat anti-rabies vaccination.

Furthermore, during the Municipal Agricultural and Fishery Council (MAFC) meeting, one of the agenda was to participate in promoting rabies awareness and the establishment of a dog impounding facility. We also participated in the Poster Making Contest in celebration of World Rabies Day facilitated by the Provincial Veterinary Office.

The combined efforts of banner posting and pet vaccination served as a powerful reminder of the importance of collective action in safeguarding the community from this potentially deadly disease.
