Annually, on September 28, the World Rabies Day (WRD) is being held on the initiative of the Global Alliance for Rabies Control (GARC) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC, Atlanta, USA) and with the support of the World Health Organization.

This is the only event that promotes awareness of the people about the prevention of rabies and allows the representatives of medical and veterinary institutions to join the exchange of experience.

The motto of WRD 2018 "Rabies: share the message. Save a Life " reflects the global goal and objectives for achieving zero deaths from rabies by 2030. The main mission of the conference is to solve one of the most important problems - the need to raise awareness about the relevance of the problem of rabies in Ukraine, its distribution among wild and domestic animals, the consequences of infection of humans and animals, raising the monitoring problems on the basis of geoinformation systems and diagnosis and prevention of rabies at the modern level.

In this year, as annually, WRD is organized in National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine by the Department of Epizootology and Veterinary Business Organization, headed by Doctor of Veterinary Sciences, professor Vitalii Nedosekov – national expert on rabies, one of the leading rabiologists in the world.

The main goal of organizers is to draw attention to the problems of rabies spread, its fatal consequences, diagnosis and prevention. Solving these tasks, epidemiologists, representatives of Ministry of Health of Ukraine, epizootologists, international scientists and heads of regional departments of State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection are involved in the conference.

Considering that rabies is being registered in Ukraine and over the past 17 years the leading positions among domestic carnivores in the diseases of rabies were led by cats, it is extremely important to inform the population. That is why the organizers plan to hold open lessons for secondary school students in order to disseminate information about rabies among school-age children as one of the most at-risk populations. Also, open lectures will be held for students and veterinarians.

In the framework of the WRD in the veterinary clinic “Vetmedservice”, with the support of LLC “Eurovet” free vaccination of dogs and cats against rabies will be held In order to prevent the spread of rabies among pets.
